MAPPING DIRECTIONS
NAVIGATION:
Two main sets of controls enable a user to interact with the New Mexico Multi-Hazard Mapper, Navigation and Layer control. Aligned vertically to the left of the main map a set of navigation controls allow the user to zoom in, zoom out, return to previous extent, and go to full extent. Hover your mouse over these controls for directions on their use. The zoom in and zoom out buttons are tools that require you to click on the map after enabled. To zoom in, click the tool and then click and drag a zoom box on the map for the area to zoom to. To zoom out, enable the tool and then simply click once on the map and the map will zoom out from that point. In the dark grey border around the map, small yellow arrows are buttons that once clicked pan the map in the direction of the arrow.
LAYER CONTROL:
Two layers are permanent layers designed to give the user immediate reference. The LANDSAT image is a color image that will turn off when zoomed in at a level where its coarse spatial resolution ceases to be meaningful. The red colored counties layer is also permanent. Aligned vertically to the right of the map, geographic layers available for display and query can be scrolled through. Two columns of controls are available for each layer. To display a layer click the small square check box under the column labeled DISPLAY. The layer will start to draw immediately. Image layers for aerial photography are available at two scales. Statewide DOQQ (Digital Ortho Quarter Quadrangles) are available at zoomed in levels. Because of their coarse resolution they will turn off at an un-useable scale. Fine resolution DOQQ’s are available for Santa Fe County and are zoom-able to a high degree and show fine detail at a scale up to a 60 meters across the extent of the map.
Query able layers have a small round button to their left under the column labeled QUERY. Select the button next to the layer that you wish to query and then click on a feature for that layer in the map. The attributes attached to the feature will appear in a separate window.
Several FEMA specific and flood hazard layers are specific to Santa Fe County and are best viewed at zoom levels inside of Santa Fe County. These layers are indicated with the “Santa Fe” prefix.
OTHER FEATURES:
The locator map in the lower right indicates the location of your present view in New Mexico. Below the locator map, a blue link generates a PDF of the map with its layers that is shown in the main viewer. Once you have chosen the layers and area of interest by navigating there, clicking this button produces a PDF map with legend. The readout directly underneath the main viewer gives you the Universal Transverse Mercator units of the cursor position in meters.
